Small Business Anti-Displacement Network

ABOUT THE PROJECT
In a world where neighborhoods are constantly evolving, &Access is leading the charge to protect the businesses that need it most. As a key player in the National Center for Smart Growth’s Small Business Anti-Displacement Network, &Access is helping launch a groundbreaking community of practice designed to safeguard small businesses from the pressures of gentrification and financial instability. Backed by J.P. Morgan Chase, this project is laser-focused on the businesses owned by immigrants and people of color—groups that have historically faced the brunt of displacement.

The COVID-19 pandemic only heightened these challenges, exposing vulnerabilities many of these businesses were already grappling with. But here’s where &Access shines: we played a critical role in designing a national network of leaders from across sectors and cities, all committed to keeping small businesses strong and resilient amidst rapid change. Our work ensures that as neighborhoods undergo revitalization, the very people who helped sustain them are not left behind. We’re making sure that disadvantaged business owners, workers, and residents can benefit from new investments—building wealth, stability, and long-term financial health, rather than facing the exclusion that has historically plagued under-resourced communities. This isn’t just about protecting businesses; it’s about ensuring that they thrive in the face of transformation.

OUR IMPACT

The project made a significant impact by publishing a comprehensive toolkit with over 20 actionable solutions to combat commercial displacement. This toolkit serves as a vital resource for communities looking to protect small businesses from the pressures of gentrification and economic change.

With a growing network of over 200 dedicated members, the initiative has built a robust support system, fostering collaboration and shared strategies across regions. For more information on these resources and the network’s mission, visit antidisplacement.org, where communities can access tools and insights to safeguard their local businesses and promote economic resilience.
